Mum's Life

Created by Alaisdair 3 years ago
Born In Sale to an artist mother and a mathematical father. Grew up in Lancashire and Cheshire. Did well at school, wanted to become a doctor but not allowed so trained as a nurse, in orthopaedics and then the new science of Radiotherapy at Christies Hospital, Manchester. Where she  met and married Alex Stewart a golf mad GP who whisked her off to Chapel-en-le Frith, Derbyshire. had to give up her career as was so common at that time to man the telephones for the Practice and ten to care for the family of three boys. Heavily involved in everything that was going on, organised many charity events, was a church warden, Cub Scout Leader, School Governor, National Trust Guide. Organised Art Festivals including the early years programs at the Buxton Opera festival. Became a Homeless Housing Officer for the borough of High Peak.
After the death of Alex in 1996 decided to start a new life in Wedmore, Somerset. Again very involved with the church, became a guide for Wells cathedral. Joined the local walking group where she met Tom Blaxland, fell in love married and had some wonderful years with him. First living in Enmore then Cannington. Involved again with the Church that she loved and the local Civic Society.
In her final years she developed Alzheimers a disease she exhorted us to find a cure for, as she did not want anyone else to go through such a disease. Hopefully your contributions will help to this cause.
She died peacefully on Sunday October 4th at Casa Di Lusso Nursing Home in Bridgwater. She died at the backend of Storm Alex!
May she now rest in peace.
